Charging Forward in Stewardship

One of my favorite t-shirts has a picture of rhinocerose on it. It was given to me by a friend who purchased the shirt as part of an effort to save the white rhinos. Rhinoceroses are strong, sturdy and surprisingly fast, a rhino is built to protect. When it senses danger, especially near its herd or its young, it does not hesitate. It moves with focus, strength and purpose.

There may be a stewardship lesson for us in that.

God has entrusted each of us with gifts, time and resources to use for his kingdom. When opportunities come to serve, give, encourage or help, faithful stewards do not stand still and wait for someone else to go first. They respond with willing hearts and steady faith.

Stewardship is not passive. It calls us to move with purpose, give with conviction and serve with the strength God provides. May we be quick to answer God’s call, bold in putting our faith into action and faithful in caring for the people and work God has placed before us.

The Samaritan Purse shoeboxes will be available for you to fill for a child the month of October. We will be collecting them November 15th. Please put $10 in each box to cover shipping and handling. Shoeboxes will be available in the Narthex beginning in October.

The Annual Candle Lighting, Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 18th.

ATTENTION! ATTENTION! Our annual bazaar will be held November 7th. Our theme this year is "O Holy Night". Ideas and suggestions for decorations would be appreciated, especially nativy scenes (if you are able to lend us your nativity scene, PLEASE put your name on it so that we may return it). Our bazaar has a Kitchen and Craft Booth, a Bake Sale and Grandma's Attic Booth. To make our bazaar a success we need donations to all of these booths as well as items for a silent auction. The best part of the bazaar is the fancy tea sandwiches and cookies. This event is a whole church function and not just a few members of PW. PLEASE start planning now to help with donations and helping the week and day of the bazaar.

With the cold winter months approaching, the ladies Bible Study Group has chosen "Walk for Warmth" to be the selected Monthly Mission Project for October. With energy prices high, we realize that many of our local citizens will be in need of help in paying their heating bills. How blessed we are to be able to enjoy warm homes so let us think of others and open our hearts and wallets, knowing it is more blessed to give than to receive as the scriptures tell us in Acts 20:35.
